Summer
The summer starts in May and lasts till June. This is the perfect time for darshan as the temperature hovers around 17 degrees Celsius. You can easily explore the other places in and around too, as the weather is salubrious during this time.
Monsoon
Monsoon starts in July and ends in August, with the temperature dropping to 12 degrees Celsius. This season witnesses heavy rainfalls and landslides thus, this season is not suitable for the pilgrims eager to visit Kedarnath. Avoid this season, but if you want to visit in season, pack essentials to save yourself from heavy rain.
Winter
Winters are witnessed in November and last till April. This is not a good time to visit Kedarnath as the roads to Kedarnath get blocked due to heavy snowfall and thus the Kedarnath temple remains closed during this time as the temperature here goes to sub-zero.

How To Reach Kedarnath

By road
Pilgrims coming from any city or state of India need to reach Dehradun or Delhi first. After this, you will be transferred to Gaurikund which is the point where the road to Kedarnath ends and one needs to commence a trek to reach Kedarnath Dham right from here. Gaurikund is well connected by motorable roads.
By Helicopter
If you have less time or want to avoid the tiredness of 16 km of trekking, you can opt for a Helicopter ride to Kedarnath. One can straightaway take a helicopter ride from Sahastradhara helipad in Dehradun and reach directly to Kedarnath, but if one does not want to cover the distance from Dehradun, one can avail of this service from different helipads like Guptkashi, Sersi, and Phata.
Opening and closing times of Kedarnath Temple
Kedarnath Dham is open only for six months. The dates are generally declared by the Chardham committee, Kedar-Badri Mandir Samiti, before the holy day of Akshaya Tritiya. Kedarnath Dham closes on Yama Dwitiya Bhai Dhooj. Kedarnath temple opens with the arrival of summer in April-May and closes with the start of winter months- October-November. So, plan accordingly.
