One of the most sacred and commenced by the devotees is the Chardham Yatra. Every year, several devotees visit Uttarakhand from all over India to seek blessings at the four dams. The perfect months to visit Chardham are May and the first half of June month and between October to the end of November. One should avoid travelling during the monsoon season, that is, July, August and September, as the region becomes landslide-prone and thus becomes risky.
Generally, the Chardham Yatra takes 10-12 days to complete and thus one can easily complete their visit to the four sacred Dhams – Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath, and Badrinath with the meticulously planned 12-13 days itinerary, but those who have a shortage of time they can opt Chardham Yatra by helicopter which is the easiest and fastest way to pay a visit to the entire pilgrimage in a short time and requires 6 days. For an impeccable experience, you can go for our wide range of affordable and customizable Chardham yatra packages and avail the best offers and discounts on your package.
Chardham opens every year with the arrival of summer in April-May and closes with the start of winter months- October-November. It remains open only for 6 months. The dates are usually declared by the Chardham committee, Kedar-Badri Mandir Samiti, before the holy day of Akshaya Tritiya or Adha Teej.
The shrines of Yamunotri and Gangotri remain open on the day of Akshaya Tritiya every year, followed by the portal opening of Kedarnath and Badrinath temples after a couple of days. The holy Dhams of Yamunotri and Kedarnath close on Yama Dwitiya Bhai Dhooj, whereas Gangotri Dham closes on the day of Diwali and Badrinath temple closes on the day of Vijay Dashmi.
The Chardham Yatra traditionally begins from either Haridwar or Rishikesh, two prominent pilgrimage destinations in the state of Uttarakhand, India. Both cities serve as important gateways to the Himalayas and are easily accessible by road and rail. Pilgrims gather in Haridwar or Rishikesh to commence their spiritual journey to the sacred sites of Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath, and Badrinath.
